As Pakistan’s Independence Day approaches, homes and streets begin to bloom with flags, banners, and paper decorations. While the patriotic spirit is something to celebrate, it’s also important to reflect on how we celebrate.
Each year, thousands of paper flags are printed and purchased—only to end up torn, discarded, or flying into gutters once the festivities end. Most of these are made from non-recycled paper, contributing to deforestation, waste, and pollution. What’s worse, paper flags are rarely disposed of responsibly, often found littering roadsides and water drains.
This year, let’s rethink how we show our love for Pakistan.
What if we celebrated consciously? What if, instead of single-use paper decorations, we invested in something green, living, and lasting?
